If I get disability benefits in Colorado, how much SSI can I receive?
SSA (the Social Security Administration) offers two disability programs. The first is SSD, or more offically SSDI (Social Security Disability Insurance). The second is SSI.
To learn more about SSI, you may wish to visit one of these pages: SSI disability requirements, or What is the SSI and Social Security Disability Application Wait Time?, or Will I qualify for SSI?
If you get awarded SSDI benefits in Colorado or any state, then your benefit will be based on your insured status and will ultimately depend on your earnings and the payroll taxes you have paid during the years of your work history.
SSI is different in that there is a maximum amount of SSI a person can receive and that current amount can be seen here.
Will you receive the maximum SSI benefit if you get approved? It will depend on your living arrangements. Because SSI is a need-based program, if you live with another individual, or other people, the following applies: If an individual shows that they are paying their share of the household bills, they will receive the maximum SSI disability amount. If they cannot pay their share, or are receiving financial help from family or friends, their SSI disability amount may be reduced.
