Filing for SSI or Supplemental Security Income in Missouri

How do you apply for SSI in Missouri (Supplemental Security Income)? First of all, You need to contact Social Security to schedule a disability interview. Your disability interview can be scheduled to occur over the phone or in person at a local social security office.

However, it should be pointed out that, unlike social security disability, an SSI disability application cannot be done online. You can submit information online to the social security administration that qualifies as a lead for their purposes (in other words, something for them to follow up on), but submitting information in this fashion does not give a person the benefits of protective filing.

After a disability interview has been conducted, a Social Security claims representative will evaluate your case for both Social Security disability and Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Some individuals will be eligible for social security disability only, some individuals will be eligible for SSI disability only, and some individuals will be eligible to have disability claims taken in both categories (known as a concurrent claim).

If you meet the non-medical criteria for SSI and are eligible to have an SSI application taken, your disability claim will be sent the state disability agency for a medical decision.

Once your SSI disability has been medically approved, it will be sent back to Social Security to update the non-medical criteria such as income and resources.

Remember, Supplemental Security Income is a needs-based program; therefore your resources and income must be evaluated to determine if you are entitled to receive a monthly disability benefit.
