Social Security Disability - Can I file a widow's claim if my spouse received SSI?

Can I file a widow's claim if my spouse received SSI?

There are no survivor benefits payable to the dependents of an SSI beneficiary. SSI is a need-based program. Therefore, once the beneficiary has passed away, the benefit ends.

You should contact your local Social Security office or call the toll free Social Security number (1-800-772-1213) to inquire about potential entitlement to a widow or widower's benefit if the deceased spouse received a Social Security check in addition to an SSI check.
