HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET A DISABILITY HEARING IN TEXAS?

How long will it take to get a Social Security Disability hearing scheduled in Texas?

There is no precise way to know how long it may take to get a disability hearing date scheduled in Texas after a request for hearing has been submitted. This is because different hearings offices have different levels of backlogs and these are continually subject to change. Also, there is the simple fact that some ALJs (administrative law judges) hear more cases than other judges.

Common questions about filing for disability in Texas
All that said, here are statistics from the Social Security Administration for several ODARs (Office of Disability Adjudication and Review, formerly known as OHA, or the Office of Hearings and Appeals):
  • Fort Worth Texas hearing office: 11 months to get a hearing date from the time a hearing was requested.

  • San Antonio Texas hearing office: 16 months to get a hearing date from the time a hearing was requested.

  • Rio Grande Valley Texas hearing office: 18 months to get a hearing date from the time a hearing was requested.

  • Dallas (downtown) Texas hearing office: 14 months to get a hearing date from the time a hearing was requested.

  • Dallas (north) Texas hearing office: 12.5 months to get a hearing date from the time a hearing was requested.

  • Houston (north) Texas hearing office: 10 months to get a hearing date from the time a hearing was requested.

  • Houston (Bissonnet) hearing office: 13 months to get a hearing date from the time a hearing was requested.

As you can see, there is a wide amount of variance between the different hearings offices in Texas. So, quite literally, how long it takes to get a disability hearing in Texas...depends on where you live in Texas.
