How long does it take to get a disability hearing in Pennsylvania?

It can take quite a long time to get a hearing date in Pennsylvania for a disability claim. In fact, without even counting the time it takes to go through the initial claim step and then proceed through the review or reconsideration step, it can take up to two years to get a date for a hearing.

Of course, the amount of time needed to wait for a hearing will vary depending on where you live. Is there any way to get a disability hearing faster? Potentially there is; however, the circumstances required to do this are fairly limited.

For instance, if an individual is in danger of losing their home or lodging arrangement, it may be possible to have a hearing request expedited. Of course, a hearing request will typically only be expedited when an emergency situation exists. To request an expedite, you can send what is known as a dire need letter to the hearing office where your claim is pending. Or, if you are represented, you can have your attorney or representative do this for you.

You can also contact your local congressman and request that they make an inquiry into your case. Not surprisingly, this is called a "congressional inquiry". Such inquiries are typically handled by a congressional staffer and, while not guaranteed to move your case faster, they can sometimes have this effect.
