Can I get temporary disability in Kentucky?

Temporary disability benefits from Social Security

The question of temporary disability benefits comes up frequently. Many individuals find themselves with a disabling medical condition that they know will improve or resolve over time, but which will still make it impossible for them to sustain employment for the short term.

Though private disability companies will offer short term disability plans, the Social Security administration does not offer short-term or temporary disability. Every disability case that is evaluated and reviewed is considered according to the SSA definition of disability which states that, at the very least, a person's disabling condition must last at least one full year, or be projected to last that long, in order for a person to receive a disability award.

Not only that, the condition must be severe enough that it causes enough physical limitations and/or mental limitations that the individual cannot go back to their past work, or switch to any other type of work.

In this, disability approvals under SSDI or SSI are more close to being permanent disability than temporary, though they are reviewed under the CDR, or continuing disability review, process every few years.
