How many cases are approved at the Disability Application level?

National statistics indicate that about 30 out of every hundred Social Security Disability and SSI claims are approved at the initial claim's level (a.k.a. the disability application level).

Assuming that the other 70 percent file a reconsideration of the initial disability denial (the request for reconsideration is the first appeal in the social security administration's disability appeal process), an additional 15 percent of those denied claims would be allowed.

An initial disability claim usually takes ninety days or less to receive a decision and reconsiderations are usually under sixty days. What does this mean? It means that roughly 40 percent of all disability claims are usually approved within a few months.

So, to answer the question, yes it is possible to get a relatively quick disability approval. However, this example probably leans a bit to the optimistic side since many individuals fail to actually file an appeal after they have been denied on an initial claim.

Update: What is the rate of approval and denial for disability claims?
