SOCIAL SECURITY DISABILITY APPLICATION ONLINE

Social Security Disability Application Online

Social Security has an online disability process, however the process at this time is not complete. The online disability process only allows an individual to file for Social Security Disability not Supplemental Security Income disability (SSI).

Currently, the Social Security online disability application asks if an individual wishes to file for SSI disability, but does not allow the individual to complete an application. This means if an individual wishes to file for SSI, their local Social Security office must contact them to complete their SSI application. (Note: SSA has stated that applying for SSI online will soon be possible and this may be true by the time you read this page).

However if they are not able to reach the individual, then the individual will more than likely receive an informal denial for SSI disability. This puts the responsibility back on the disability applicant to contact their local Social Security office if they wish to file for SSI disability benefits.

Once an individual completes their online Social Security Disability application, they are requested to complete an online disability report form and print and sign a medical release form.

The signed medical release must be returned to their local Social Security office. If the individual does not complete their online disability report form or return their medical release form, Social Security will attempt to contact them to get the needed information. If they do not receive the requested information in thirty days from the date the application was filed online, they are allowed to deny the disability claim for failure to cooperate.

This simply means the disability applicant failed to provide the necessary information needed to process their disability claim.
