DISABILITY CLAIM STATUS FOR COPD SSD OR SSI CASE

How do I find out the status of my disability claim for COPD?

If you have an initial disability claim, you should contact your local Social Security office or call the disability examiner working your claim.

Note: for those who are unaware, disability examiners receive disability claims that are taken at Social Security offices. They work at a state-level agency that handles making disability claim decisions for the Social Security Administration. In most states, the agency where disability examiners work is called DDS, or disability determination services.

If you do not have the contact number for the examiner working on your disability claim, you can ask your local Social Security office for the number.

The same methods are available if you have a reconsideration appeal that is being worked on and you would like to know it's status as, in most states, your disability claim is at the same disability agency for this determination. Claims that have moved to administrative law judge hearing appeal are handled at the Office of disability adjudication and review, or simply ODAR.

If your disability claim is at the disability hearing level, you can get a status by contacting your local Social Security office or the hearings office. Most likely, they will only be able to tell you if your disability claim has been scheduled for a hearing, or not.

From my experience it is not a bad idea to check on the status of your disability claim periodically during the disability process. You may need to provide additional information, they may need to schedule consultative examinations, or there may have been a decision made.
