Disability Back Pay for Child in Kentucky

"How long can it take to get my child's back pay check in KY? I was told by his worker when I went to the appt to sign for it that the process can take up to 90 days. I called a few weeks ago and was told it was sent for direct deposit payment, but have not been paid. It has almost been the 90 days.

Thanks for an answer to my question,"

After reading your question I am not sure where you are in the disability process with your child. You state that you filed a disability application for your child and the representative told you it could take up to 90 days to get a decision. It sounds like you are waiting for a disability decision from the Kentucky state disability agency.

Sometimes disability decisions take longer than ninety days to receive a decision. From my experience, if you have not received a formal award notice, they have not made a decision in your case. I am not sure what “being sent for direct deposit” means.

If you have received a formal award notice that states your child is approved for disability benefits and you have been to the end-line SSI disability interview (all SSI disability beneficiaries must have a review of their income and resources once they are medically approved), you may very well be waiting for back pay benefits.

Sometimes, it takes more than a few weeks to get a SSI or Social Security Disability claim into pay status. If this is the case, you should contact the representative who is working on your child’s claim to determine why there is a delay in your child’s disability benefits.
