Can you file for SSD and SSI at the same time and have the cases worked on separately?

I have already filed an appeal for disability and am waiting for a court date. My question is that I need income now so I have reapplied for SSI (was denied on the prior claim due to having unemployment income which put us over the limit). What is the wait time to get an answer on SSI and how long if we are approved does it take to get payment?

Unfortunately, your SSI disability claim will be associated with your Social Security disability claim that is awaiting a court date. The medical decision will be made simultaneously. Payment of Social Security and/or SSI disability benefits will be decided at your court date. Therefore, there is no immediate income available.
