Filling out your disability appeal paperworkIf your initial disability claim is denied, you will have to begin the Social Security appeal process if you wish to continue your claim. In order for you to appeal your denial, you will have to fill out appeal paperwork. Currently, you are able to complete your appeal paperwork online at www.ssa.gov, or you can fill out actual appeal paper forms. If you are completing your appeal online, you will have to complete fill-in forms and submit them. If you are not comfortable with computers, you can contact Social Security for the necessary paper forms. Whichever option you chose, filing your appeal is not difficult. You complete online or paper forms that ask questions to update your disability claim. These questions are meant to gather information about new doctors, additional doctor visits, hospital visits, new medications or testing, and any changes to your daily activities that may have occurred since your denial. Generally, the forms will not take long to complete. Once completed your should make sure to submit the forms if you have used the online process to complete your forms. If you have chosen paper appeal forms, make sure you complete them and return them to Social Security. Either method requires that the appeal be submitted to Social Security within sixty-five days from the date of your denial notice. This appeal period includes a sixty-day appeal period plus five days for mailing.
