What medical conditions automatically qualify for disability?



 
Many medical conditions might automatically qualify a person for Social Security Disability. Social Security has a disability determination process that depends upon a group of impairment listings that address conditions that affect various body systems.

The Social Security definition of disability state that an individual must have a severe medically determinable impairment. The impairment may be physical or mental (meaning psychological or psychiatric). The impairment listings provide the criteria needed to satisfy the severity requirements of the disability program, which are SSD and SSI. If you have a disabling condition that meets or equals the criteria of an impairment listing, you will automatically medically qualify for Social Security Disability.

Additionally, Social Security has identified 226 conditions that are automatic approvals through the compassionate allowance program. If you have any of the conditions listed you will medically qualify for disability benefits. The list of conditions continues to grow, as individuals are allowed to submit additional conditions for consideration.

Lastly, if your have a terminal condition (these are called TERI cases), your disability claim will be expedited for a quick medical approval. Disability Determination Servicess managers control the processing of TERI cases to ensure that they receive an approval within 30 days.
