What is the maximum of hours to work and still get disability?

There is no maximum amount of hours to work and still get disability. However, I would still be mindful that individuals who are filing for SSDI or receiving SSDI disability are supposed to be unable to work at a substantial and gainful level.

So how does Social Security look at work when someone is getting disability? Many disability beneficiaries assume or are told out in the public that they cannot work if they are receiving disability benefits. This is information is incorrect; you can work and receive disability benefits. There are limits to amount of money you are allowed to earn and still get your disability benefits.

If you are applying for SSDI, you are allowed to work as long as you do not earn over the SGA limit (Current SGA limit). If you earnings are below this amount you can file a disability claim. If you are receiving SSDI, the SGA limit is still the same and as long as you do not go over the limit, you are entitled to receive your disability benefits.

If you are a SSDI beneficiary, make sure that you report all work activity promptly. If your earnings exceed the SGA limit in any given month, you are not entitled to that month's benefits unless you are still in your trial work period.

In summary, work activity can be problematic for SSDI beneficiaries unless they are careful and mindful of the SGA limit. If you go over the limit expect to have an overpayment and remember Social Security will expect you to repay the overpayment.
