How to prove you are disabled
and win disability benefits

Your disability benefit amount is determined via an earnings-based computation. For example, if an individual has worked very little or has been self employed (specifically, engaged in self employment and reporting no profit or a small profit) their social security disability benefit amount may be small.

Since an individual's work activity and earnings can directly affect how much their disability benefit amount may be, it is especially important for self-employed individuals to report their income. A failure to do so may lead to an unexpected (perhaps expected) disappointment in the event that a person becomes sick or injured and, as a result, unable to work.

To learn what you may potentially receive in disability benefits in the event that you need to file for disability and are subsequently approved, you may contact social security using the toll free line or by calling a local office.
