QUESTION ABOUT SOCIAL SECURITY DISABILITY CONVERTING TO SOCIAL SECURITY RETIREMENT

If I have a representative payee and receive SSD, what do I do when I turn 65 and SSD coverts to SS Retirement?

Hi:

I'm currently on SSD with a custodian and my monthly benefit goes directly into my custodial account at my bank via electronic transfer. I will turn 65 in 3 weeks and as I understand it the SSD benefits will convert to regular SS with the benefit amount remaining the same.

My question/s are: Will the benefit payment automatically continue to be sent to my custodial account after my 65th birthday, or do I need to file forms with the bank so the benefit will be sent to a NON custodial account after my 65th birthday? And do I need to file or do anything directly with SS?

Thank you

If you have a representative payee you will continue to have that payee with the conversion. Nothing changes. If you are wishing to make a change with regard to your payment situation you will have to contact your local Social Security office. Also your benefit will not become a retirement benefit until you are 66 (full retirement age).
