Can I get Retroactive SSI Disability Benefits? How to prove you are disabled and win disability benefits
"Will I be able to collect retroactive SSI disability benefits?"
Retroactive disability benefits pertain to Social Security disability (SSD) benefits only because it involves a back payment of disability benefits of up to twelve months prior to the applicant’s filing date. If they are approved for disability benefits during the retroactive period, they may receive retroactive benefits along with the back pay disability benefits owed from the initial filing date until they receive their disability approval.
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) disability beneficiaries have no retroactive back pay disability benefits because eligibility for disability benefits begins with the filing date and no earlier. Disability back pay benefits can only begin with the application filing date for SSI beneficiaries.
